Hillsborough County 4-H Youth Foundation originally started in 1973 by a group of volunteers with the goal of helping 4-H youth go to 4-H camp. Not much is known about the original Foundation. It was dissolved in 1978 for unknown reasons but restarted in 2004 by a new group of volunteers.
In 2004, the Hillsborough County 4-H agent at the time was Holly Jordan. Her father-in-law, Mark Jordan, took her passion for 4-H and restarted the Foundation with the same goal of helping Hillsborough County 4-H youth go to camps.
Over the years the Board has grown and expanded their vision to not only helping youth go to 4-H camp, but also events like 4-H Legislature, a variety of competitions and even providing college scholarships. Currently, in 2022, three of the original 2004 Board members, Betty Jo Tompkins, Gene Holcomb and Mike McKinney, are still serving on the Board.
Their goal is the same as the 4-H motto “To Make the Best Better”.
